Shallow Shore Lake Richterswil

The shoreline area „Garnhänki“ in Richterswil is designated as a priority area for enhancement for recreational use and improvement of shoreline vegetation in the cantonal guideline „Zurichsee 2050.“ In the Inventory of Swiss Heritage Sites (ISOS), the shoreline area is classified with preservation goal „a,“ and the existing, pruned chestnut row is mentioned as a reference. As part of the construction of a Sihl relief tunnel in Thalwil, the „Garnhänki“ area will undergo the removal of an embankment from the 1940s to implement an ecologically valuable shallow shore zone as an ecological compensation measure. A portion of the area has been slated for renaturati- on since the construction of the harbor in Richterswil in 2003. The redesign of the shoreline section aligns with existing structures, incorporates them, and further develops them where appropriate.

Theme: Animals and People at the Lake Central Theme: A lakeshore that tells its story.

In the east, a plaza-like area on Lake Zurich is enhanced by a generous stepped structure with a wooden footbridge, offering native trees and seating. In the west, another plaza with trees, a viewing tower, and informational facilities is created. In between stretches an ecologically valuable shallow shore zone with foot and bike paths, surrounded by native trees and a hedge. Playgrounds, lampposts, and information boards complement the area, while a wooden platform provides a view
of the lake. The design aligns with existing elements and integrates ecological niches for small organisms.
