The urban block Pier 05 consists of three distinctive buildings and a strong outdoor space. The high urban density is ba- lanced with a high density of outdoor spaces. The square creates a green urban forest in the middle of the area. The central „public passage“ divides the base area into a northern and southern building plot and establishes views to the subway station „Seestadt“ and the lakeside promenade. The new urban forest consists of pioneer species. A succession process, similar to what occurs in natural forests, will change the appearance of the square over the years. The urban forest contributes to cooling the urban space and creates a pleasant atmosphere that invites people to linger. Bands of large concrete slabs, forming an indirect guidance system, provide barrier-free access.
