Merge of Train Stations Bruggen and Haggen St. Gallen
The project focuses on the experiential quality of horizontal movement between the train stations and neighborhoods. The elegant footbridge gently extends uphill on the terrain and ends downhill in an open, horseshoe-shaped observation platform, offering a magnificent view over the valley floor.
The outdoor design sensitively integrates the architectural elements into the surroundings, making the slope and the two green corridors perceptible. The relocation of Bruggen station to Haggen station creates a well-integrated ‚hub‘ in the Lerchenfeld development area.
The topographical features and green structures are connected through herbaceous strips and wild plants, while the steep railway embankments are ecologically enhanced. The barrier-free vertical access via a footbridge and lift towers connects the train stations and neighborhoods. The project creates a sequen- ce of high-quality urban spaces that overlook the urban area up to Fürstenland. Through new squares, gathering areas, and careful redesign, a diverse usage environment is created with increased quality of stay and in- teraction, as well as sustainable development and enhancement of the area.
